Simona Lukoševičiūtė

In the works of Lukoševičiūtė a vivid influence of new media – digital photography and cinema – can be felt. The artist performs photographic or cinematic procedures, creates soft, dissolving spaces, out of focus, fragmented images.

Each work – is an event. In her creations time is perceived as a frame, as a fragment. These artworks capture the feeling of the present, different experiences, a sense of transience. The process of painting begins even before starting to paint. Creative starting point – is a work with already mediated and processed images. The motifs of works are selected by continuously observing and capturing various situations in a close environment.

The artist in her works is often interweaving or hiding her own portrait as an observer. A second “self” is often depicted hardly recognizable, anonymous. It is like an attempt to identify oneself not only though the image but also through the environment. An attempt to dispel doubts with the reality of her own experience and to eliminate the state of weightlessness.
